Defenses are ways we have learned to protect ourselves, and maybe we needed those defenses whether it was people pleasing, staying quiet, being aggressive, or escaping the situation. Problem is, those defenses likely no longer serve us and have become maladaptive behavior patterns that get in the way of being our CORE SELF.

A combination of Nature and Nurture. Some of us are born a bit more anxious, aware of others, wanting to do well. When we journey through chronically problematic spaces in our life, we take some of our natural traits to the extreme and/or develop other responses to help us survive those difficult situations.

It’s likely noticeable if we’ve ever been asked “are you ok?” But not all of us have a person around them brave enough to ask a hard working independent woman if they are “ok”. They will avoid the topic, or you. This can impact our connections with others, and will definitely keep us in survival mode aka road to burnout.

You will want to first get curious as to what may have activated defenses and how old is this behavior pattern. Next you will want to rework those unhelpful narratives you have been operating under. You will then want to get your body to catch up with these new thoughts by calming down the survival mode responses. Hi, I’m Clarissa
I am a licensed therapist specializing in anxiety, trauma, behavior modification, life transitions and integrative mental health, certified in breathwork, and meditation. I work with high performing women that have hit a point in their life where they feel they can no longer self-help their way through this life stage. It has been my passion to teach my clients ways to holistically take care of themselves, improve their functioning and increase their quality of life. I've spent my career as a therapist guiding individuals through the maze of emotions, work stress, and family strains. I've been, aiding clients on their personal journeys behind the four walls of the therapy office. In my experience I realize not everyone needs therapy to be better. A mentorship relationship is what my therapy clients were seeking. That’s what inspired me to expand my reach to support clients outside my 4 therapy walls.
I am not immune to the impacts of imposter syndrome, feeling lost, irritable and burnout. The combination of restructuring my perspective, realizing my values, practicing self compassion, exploring my spirituality has helped me to start living an aligned and fulfilled life. I am more confident professionally and content personally. I am more present, getting along better with important people in my life and not afraid to pursue paths that are aligned with my sense of purpose. And I want that for you too!
